Picasso

In 1946, Picasso met Georges et Suzanne Ramié, owners of the Madoura ceramics workshop in Vallauris. They arranged for him to visit the factory. Picasso modelled three small terracotta pieces.

The following summer, curious to learn what happened to these pieces, Picasso returned to Madoura with some 50 drawings ready to be translated into clay.

Those pieces from the summer of 1946, two small bulls and the head of a faun, had been fired and carefully put to one side.

This was to be the beginning of an exceptional shared adventure, rich in thousands of creations.

Between 1947-1971, Picasso created in excess of 4500 ceramics. During this time and under his strict instructions, he instigated the production of limited editions of 633 of these pieces.
